Because many have asked, the platypus you see in this photograph was taken just after dawn in very low light with a high speed ASA (which is why it is grainier than most of my other photographs). He had just swam up to the log and climbed on which is why you see the trail of water behind him. Also he spent the entire time on the log scratching himself with his hind foot which is why his back-end looks like it does. He only remained very briefly on the log before departing underwater again. I was very fortunate to get this photograph after waiting for hours because platypus are nocturnal and shy.
